Tehran Municipality: Relocation of Military Sites and Launch of ۶۰۰ Urban Development Projects

According to SAMA, Lotfollah Forouzandeh, Deputy for Coordination and Regional Affairs of the Tehran Municipality, announced significant news regarding car parks equipped with shelters at a press conference. He stated: “Work on car parks with integrated shelters has begun based on the approval of the Article Five Commission, and we hope to inaugurate several of these projects in the second half of the year. Special attention is being paid to the shelter function and obtaining the necessary permits during the construction of these car parks.”

Relocation of military and law enforcement centres from Tehran

The Deputy for Coordination and Regional Affairs of the Tehran Municipality referred to a letter sent by the Mayor of Tehran to SHAM (the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran) regarding the relocation of military and law enforcement centres from the city. He stated: “Numerous meetings have been held and we are reaching an understanding to transfer these centres as much as possible. Our approach is to move garrisons and military centres outside the city to the greatest extent feasible.”

Regarding the latest status of the 06 Garrison, he added: “The necessary understandings have been reached with the Army and the infrastructure is being prepared. Simultaneously, work is also underway at SASAD (the Army’s industrial complex). The Bam-e Rey and Environmental Village projects in District 20 are also in the preparation stage. The 06 Garrison project will be ready for public access in approximately 45 days.”

Forouzandeh stated that the municipality is ready to resolve issues related to essential goods in Tehran, saying: “The Mayor of Tehran has also informed the President of this matter so that we can carry out significant work in the field of storage and supply of goods and reduce vulnerability. The President has issued an order for cooperation to government agencies, and we hope this collaboration yields results soon.”

Commissioning of water treatment plants and renewal of dilapidated urban fabric

The Deputy Mayor of Tehran announced the commissioning of water treatment plants and the conclusion of positive agreements, stating: “In Sorkheh Hesar and Chitgar, there were issues with pests and water shortages. Through an agreement with the Ministry of Energy, the use of grey water has been considered to solve this problem.”

Regarding the reconstruction of units damaged by war, he stated: “The reconstruction of minor and moderate damage has been completed. For retrofitting and renewal, the necessary agreements have been made with property owners, and measures are underway for the relocation of some buildings. Our most important renewal issue was in District 11, which is now being resolved. These reconstruction and renewal efforts will take up to two years. Jajroodi Street in District 4 is one of the prominent examples in the renewal discussion.”

Forouzandeh further commented on the renewal of the dilapidated urban fabric: “We are seeking to make the renewal of dilapidated fabric economically viable. Regarding building permits, land, and municipal fees, incentive measures and necessary actions have been taken to accelerate renewal, and this has been effective in the number of renewals and construction activities. All districts are obliged to resolve construction-related problems, and many projects that were halted have been reactivated. The Nafarabad project has been prepared as a model neighbourhood and will be inaugurated soon, while the Islamabad and Vanak projects are also underway.”

He continued: “We have 60 hectares of green and recreational space at Bam-e Rey, which will be inaugurated soon, and we will have projects to inaugurate every week until the end of the year. Approximately 600 large and small projects will be inaugurated by the end of the year.”
