The Urgent Need to Move Toward Industrialization
Industrialized Construction: A Solution to Rising Costs and Skilled Labor Shortage
- Industrialized construction is now a necessity for the building industry
- Using domestically produced equipment can reduce project costs
- Skilled labor shortage is a major challenge in construction
- Defining large-scale projects and using industrial equipment leads to higher profitability
Mahmoud Salashour, a designer and executor of construction projects, has emphasized the necessity of steering the building industry toward industrialization, citing the current conditions and challenges facing the sector. He stated: “Industrialization was not considered a necessity in the past, but today, given the circumstances that have arisen, it is better to guide buildings in this direction.”
Reducing Costs with Domestic Equipment
Referring to housing prices and the importance of skilled labor, he stressed: “We must definitely turn to industrialized construction so that we can achieve a better overall timeframe in projects and face fewer problems during operation.”
This expert identified the shortage of skilled workers as one of the main challenges in construction, adding: “Industrialization can employ less labor for project execution by utilizing equipment and tools available in the market.”
Limited Use of Industrialization in Iran
Salashour noted that industrialization has not been used as much as it should be in Iran’s construction sector, adding: “Some projects use this approach, while others merely observe it.” According to him, equipment manufactured domestically is capable of being used in these projects, and in many projects, industrial tools and equipment can be utilized to reduce project costs.
Greater Profit Through Defining Large-Scale Projects
He also pointed to construction and land costs, remarking: “Currently, if someone can define large-scale projects, increase the number of their projects, and use construction equipment that reduces the workforce, they can certainly achieve higher profits in building construction.”
In conclusion, Salashour introduced industrialized construction as a practical solution to address the current challenges of the construction industry, including the shortage of skilled labor and high costs.
